Background Information

History: Central City Economic Opportunity Corporation, 501 c (3) nonprofit community
development corporation. Founded in 1965 as one of the six neighborhood centers of Total Community Action, Inc, and incorporated in 1967, CCEOC for three decades has operated the Central City Neighborhood Center and provided programs and service for low income and disadvantaged individuals and families to ease the social and economic condition that perpetuate poverty. CCEOC has over 34 years of experience and leadership in the Central City Community.

The organization currently sponsors and manages several community programs, including a Head Start Center for 3 to 5 years olds; a drug education and prevention program for in school and out of school youth; a senior center for persons 60 years and over, 55 and over if handicapped, a USDA commodity distribution program, Family Leadership Program, Civic Capital Development Demonstration Program and an economic development initiative.

Mission: The mission of the Central City Economic Opportunity Corporation is to create and promote the economic vitality and sustainability of Central City businesses and residents through the identification, planning and delivery of necessary programs, services, and redevelopment activities. Central to its mission is the focus on long term opportunities available to nurture and enhance existing and emerging institutional support within the area.

Central City Economic Opportunity Corporation works to address the following issues:
  • Promote small business development in the Central City Community
  • Help with the development of pre-school children
  • Provide assistance to Central City young adult population ages 18-35.
  • Address infants and toddler child-care needs.
  • Provide help for senior citizens to retain their independency
